Pink Triangle Press, operator of gay adult dating site Squirt.org, announced its new social media campaign to protest against Russia’s anti-gay law.

Squirt.org is launching its social media campaign just in time for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. The campaign portrays images of Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in explicit gay sexual act with quotes from Putin himself. The goal of the campaign to protest against Russia’s anti-gay propaganda law.
“We are excited to launch this campaign”, says Pink Triangle Press’ digital business director, “Pink Triangle Press has been fighting for LGBT rights for over 40 years, we feel that it is our duty to draw attention to what’s happening in Russia. We are doing it the Squirt way: sexy, explicit and controversial.”
The images will be released through Squirt.org’s twitter feed @SquirtOrg #leavegaysalone and through Squirt’s blog daily.squirt.org

I’m glad Pink Triangle Press, parent of Squirt, is making a stand, but their NSFW approach makes it severely self limiting and most of the general public will never see it. It may be amusing to the gay community to satirize Putin this way,but it reduces an important principle to a side issue in it’s overt sexual approach. Many in the general population who do view this approach will see it the same way Gay Pride parades are usually portrayed only by the outrageous and flamboyant drag queens. The message is overwhelmed by the messenger. They’ll write it off as being ‘all about sex’ with those people…it doesn’t engage the public at large as it should. Since these cartoons will generally only be seen by a gay audience, it’s just preaching to the choir.
In contrast and far more effective is the brilliant Principle 6 campaign. The brainchild of All Out, Athlete Ally, Idea Brand and American football player, Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens. Skirting Russian law, it allows protesters to reference Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter about no discrimination without mentioning ‘gay’ per se. This allows not only public display, but stimulates public discussion. Go to their website, Principle6.org, for details and the many atheletes behind it. There is also a link to American Apparel that makes their line of gear. They’re donating all profits over cost to LBGT groups in Russia. Look for it in the crowds at the games and some athletes will be holding up 6 fingers in protest as well.
I wish Pink Triangle would make a more public friendly campaign that could be viewed by a wide audience. The message is far more important than being clever. Since Pink Tri. is based in Canada, many here in the U.S. may not know their long campaign for gay rights. Their home page has a link to their activist history that is worth reading.
Perhaps we’re giving the little man far too much recognition.
It would also be worthwhile to acknowledge a bigot closer to home. The one that was the Mayor of Toronto until stripped of hos power for all of his stupidity. Rob Ford wanted to remove the rainbow flag from Toronto City Hall while many others cities across Canada are proudly flying it in support of the LGBT in recognition of Putin’s stand against Gays. This action further demonstrates how little respect and knowledge Ford has for the big picture.
I do not think Berksfortun has seen a Russian cock in his life. I can see why he is such a size queen from looking at his profile pictures.
