By now we’re used to it that wherever a Squirt.org ad appears on the street some eyebrows will be raised. We have just started an outdoor campaign in Cardiff and Brighton, UK but the ads at Cardiff bus stops have been removed due to complaints. Check out the more liberal residents of Brighton discussing the campaign.

  1. No matter the strides, there’s still a long way to go. And, while I’m far from a conservative prude, putting up such an ad makes it that more enticing for minors to access it. It’s one thing if they Google gay/bi cruising or such. It’s another to put it out there for them to see it. There isn’t a need for ads like that. Squirt.org is hidden in plain sight. All you need to do is look. I’ve even joined other sites and wound up leaving because they layout is nothing like here. I used Google, joined and eventually left.

Hell, I’ve found ads while looking for free porn wanting me to join here. I’ve seen Squirt images in many other places. The site is there to find. I enjoy the site as it is and I’m hoping it’s not becoming more profit based. And if anyone tells me Squirt needs money, I’m gunna laugh them off the board. I once came across an article stating how much Squirt is worth…and this was at least 8 years ago. And this was well before all the ads on here. My regret, I didn’t think of the idea first!

  2. This ad is far more tasteful and less overt than previous ones with several shirtless men. The hookups tag line could be dropped as well. Most dating apps for either sex are primarily hookup sites, so that’s redundant. The actions of the models send a clear message without stating the obvious. The previous ads with several guys suggests group sex which isn’t widely acceptable even in the hetero world and certainly not spoken about openly.
The shirtless head and shoulders shots in the photo mosaic on the pictured phone also silently suggest it’s primarily a sex site rather serious dating/spouse app.

Part of seeking tolerance is respecting dissenting opinions. They’re plenty out there that disapprove of gays still for religious reasons, parents who disapprove of their younger children seeing sexual material of any persuasion, etc. So Squirt needs to honor that, while still not being ashamed either, by striking a balance. This ad is nearly there as evidenced by the far more tolerant attitudes in the clip.

Another point echoes Mickey above. Gays have made great strides, but too many confuse the idea of ‘ tolerance ‘ with ‘ acceptance ‘. They’re still years apart. The biggest force in changing hearts and minds about gay marriage here in the States were knowing openly gay people. We were no longer those odd, shadowy ones, people whisper about. They realized we were like them with the same fears and dreams who just happened to find fulfillment, love and happiness in the same sex. We were no longer ‘the other’, we were just like them and had always been there. Surveys showed knowing a gay friend or relative was the strongest message, not in your face protests. The same here. Make your ads tasteful and subtle. That will make acceptance replace tolerance faster than anything.

My generation laments the passing of gay bars and neighborhoods. They were our safe havens in an intolerant world, yet it is they’re passing that’s a gauge of our success. We always just wanted to be ourselves in the greater population. Strange how we wanted to exchange the anonymity of the dark bar for the same anonymity in the sunlight. We shouldn’t forget the past, but we shouldn’t dwell on it or wear it as a chip on our shoulders into the future. Squirt’s ads can further this acceptance if they don’t act intolerant to others. Our goal is for it to be
perceived as just another daily ad among many rather than being the controversial gay one.

  3. This doesn’t surprise me. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Those objecting to it should be charged with a hate crime.

  4. The Welsh are thick and stupid – and don’t have a go at e for writing that I lived in Cardiff for the first 23 years of my life. I found out so many things from my so-called friends AFTER I had left that place. Do not get me wrong there are some really lovey people there. I returned there a few ties since ad had some horrid experiences and that is why|I will never return there as long as I live. There is nothing wrong with the poster the Welsh need to grow up – this is the 21st Century!!!
