I caught up with Troy Velez for a behind-the-scenes look at his online life.
The origin story
“I’ve been approached a number of times and asked if I wanted to do porn…” explains Troy, when I ask what led him to explore a career in the adult entertainment industry. “I always declined, because of my modelling career.”
“I finally figured that it wouldn’t hurt for people to see me on screen. I thought to myself – you’re having sex for free when you could be getting paid.”
“I have no problem at all in terms of showing off my body. At times, I can be an exhibitionist, but I’m also quite a private person.”
Heroes and inspirations
“I have so many gay porn heroes!” confirms Troy, when I ask about his role-models in the business.
“To list just a few, there’s Antonio Biaggi, Cutler X, Rikk York, and Skyy Knox. These guys are some of my closest friends – we communicate all the time.”
“Plus, Chi Chi LaRue has always been very supportive and has guided me in the right direction.”
The business of porn
“I love the business side of it…” confirms Troy, when I ask him about some of the entrepreneurial requirements of the adult entertainment industries. “I’ve had my own business since 2004, so being entrepreneurial is something that comes naturally to me.”
“What I enjoy most about working in this industry is connecting with the fans and meeting new people. When they meet me, people are often surprised by how laid-back I actually am.”
The underwear
“I don’t really like underwear…” confesses Troy, when our conversation inevitably turns to underwear.
“There’s usually not enough time in my day to put any on!”
“If I am wearing underwear, I do love boxer-briefs – they show off all of my body.”
“When I’m at the gym, I’m definitely not wearing underwear – I like to be free.”
“In terms of what other guys are wearing, I don’t mind what they’re wearing – as long as it shows off their body and their style.”
Planning ahead
“I’m still trying to figure that out…” says Troy, when I ask what some of his goals and aspirations might be for the months ahead.
“I just got my PhD. Maybe my next step needs to be a book deal – I can tell my life story of becoming a model, then a porn-star, getting my PhD, and now an author. Maybe I could do some TV work as well?”
“I really just want to keep expanding the empire that I’m creating.”
