Cazwell & Peaches Debut “Unzip Me” (via HuffPost Gay Voices)

HuffPost Gay Voices:

Rapper Cazwell and electro wizard Peaches have got just the thing to remedy that: the debut of their delightfully raunchy new clip for the track “Unzip Me.”

The song, which will be featured on Cazwell’s upcoming album Hard To Be Fresh, due out next year, is the first collaboration between the two artists and finds them trading sex-drenched verses over throbbing drums and synths.

The video, directed by Bec Stupak, who worked as an editor and motion graphics artist on Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” music video, also features NYC nightlife favorites like the legendary Amanda Lepore, musician and celebrity trainer Cherie Lily, and musician and author Justin V. Bond.

Nasty Pig’s Dominant Jeans Ad Causes Controversy (via GAY.NET)

GAY.NET: Nasty Pig is a clothing company that got its start creating products for the gay male market, primarily targeting denim-wearing muscle men. From jock straps and briefs to pants and chaps—all in regular materials like cotton and denim, as well as leather and rubber—the business quickly grew, taking on an urban street vibe that men found incredibly sexy. Now a commercial for their new Dominant Jeans line has some Facebook fans wondering if the company is trying to gloss over its sexual gay roots and target a more mainstream straight male audience.

The commercial in question features a tatted up young guy in his underwear, which is no different than any other brand targeting hip, young men. It then shows him getting a text to hang out with someone, but he refuses, texting back, “Really busy today I gotta do me.” He takes off, does some skateboarding, then texts the person back saying he’s now ready to “…do you!”

Seems pretty gay so far; after all, what straight guy would tell his girlfriend he’s ready to do her? But some online viewers pointed out that the texter’s name is never seen. Gender is never known. And there’s nothing about the protagonist, other than his clothing choice, that makes him appear to be gay. Is he supposed to be straight? A guy who has sex with other guys but doesn’t define his sexuality? Is he “straight acting” and perpetuating the stereotype that the only really sexy guy is one who doesn’t act gay?

Or are there just some gay guys out there who are getting their panties in a bunch over nothing?

‘Sydney Mardi Gras’ Dumps ‘Gay’ and ‘Lesbian’ from Name in Rebranding Controversy

1

Towleroad:

Sydney, Australia’s annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has been ‘de-gayed’. From henceforth, it will be known as Sydney Mardi Gras, organizers announced late last week.

Writes the Sydney Morning Herald:

Insisting that the heart of the annual festival remained gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people, Mr Urmson said Mardi Gras was inviting any and all comers who wanted to celebrate diversity and ”the right to be”. This would include opening parade floats to new faces who ”share our values”.

At the launch yesterday, Mr Urmson acknowledged that long-standing supporters might feel the new approach would water down the event’s celebration of sexual difference but said Mardi Gras had to evolve with its community. ”I think that whilst we are first and foremost a GLBTQI community organisation, we also are very open to all of our friends that do not necessarily identify within that alphabet soup,” he said.

Organisers hope that reaching out will rejuvenate the event, which has failed to attract younger people and lost relevance in its core community.

TRUE MEN

0

“TRUE MEN” by Brian Shumway Project Description: Gender can be a perplexing thing. Despite being flexible and malleable, it defines and confines who we are and how we express ourselves, especially through behavior and dress. Men in particular are bound by the dictates of gender.

To be a ‘real man,’ being manly and masculine (or at the very least not outwardly effeminate) are paramount. Expression of one’s manhood, especially in public, must remain within a narrow range of acceptable social norms. Little boys are conditioned as such from birth, almost as a universal absolute. But this ignores the full story of male identity. There is a large spectrum of male experience that is deemed off limits by popular society.

The men in this portrait series fall outside traditional notions of manliness and masculinity. They possess an effeminate manner, dress, or look, a ‘girlishness’ that is as much a part of being male as weightlifting and football. They boldly embrace expressions of male identity which flaunt the confines of conventional conceptions of manhood and what it means to be a man.
