I caught up with Carter Dane to talk careers, relationships, and kindness.

Team CockyBoys

“The horizon at Cockyboys actually looks pretty good, from where I stand…” says Carter, when I ask him what projects are in the pipeline – he’s signed exclusively to the CockyBoys studio.

“First off, we are now ready to wrap up the All Saints saga, with the footage of the last episode now filmed and ready for editing.”

“Although I’m excited to see this episode, I have to confess that what I’m really looking forward to is getting to see the final edit with all pieces of the puzzle finally coming together. This final cut will reorganise all episodes into one more linear and coherent story – that should be available later this year.”

Just Being Me

“To be completely honest, Alex and I were a little surprised to get such a positive response from that scene…” explains Carter, when I ask him about the scene he filmed with his husband Alex Mecum. The scene – Just Being Me – was one of the most popular scenes produced by CockyBoys in 2019.

“Our social media presence has declined a bit over the past year. However, the people that truly care, love and support this industry surprise me over and over again. It’s because of those people that Alex and I are happy to share glimpses of our relationship from time to time.”

“I fell in love with all the good and even the bits of bad of the living, breathing Alex, not his online counterpart. Which is why, at first, we were a little reluctant to the idea of doing another scene together. We’d been married for just about seven months by that point, but still weren’t sure if we were willing to have that information put out in the world. Too often, we see marriages and relationships within our industry turning into a social media circus and people are quick to love, but also to hate, which can lead to you subconsciously letting in some of the negatively, and then things snowball from there. We didn’t want that.”

“One day, we were walking along the street and Alex grabbed my hand – nothing more special than that, just walking, holding hands. I remember this odd feeling of pride. I was proud to be his man – proud to be by his side, proud that he felt so strongly about us, proud of our love. That love that once felt so delicate now felt like a diamond. Because of that little walk, I became more confident that our relationship could safely be put on display from time to time.”

Award-winning

“I was over the moon when he won…” said Carter, talking about Alex winning Favorite Daddy at the Str8Up porn awards. “Not necessarily because of the award itself or the category, but because of what it represents. Alex puts so much energy, effort and dedication into everything he does – including his endeavours in porn – and I was always baffled at how little recognition he was getting from the award shows. Validation shouldn’t come from a trophy or prize, but those trophies represent recognition from the industry and the people supporting it. Anyone who’s ever met or worked with him knows just how kind, genuine and beautiful he is in every way. Had there been an award for that, I believe he would’ve won that too.”

“I was referring to a lack of empathy plaguing the ceremony…” explained Carter, when I asked him why he made a point of talking about kindness in the post-awards video that he posted. “The show itself was an absolute stunner – Zach Sire and Davyd Dixon put together a wonderfully ‘pezazzled’ show, brilliantly hosted by Kathy Griffin. My disappointment didn’t come from the show itself, but more so from some people in attendance.”

“As the night went on, people in the audience were chatting amongst themselves. As it snowballed, it got to the point where the people who were speaking on stage were almost drowned out by the chit-chat from the back of the room. That inevitably started affecting people who were speaking on stage. To me, it felt disrespectful and showed a lack of empathy.”

“Throughout the evening, there were mentions of strength within our community, of making a better world, and of family. I honestly believe all those things to be ideals that committed people within our industry do strive for. However, how can we be strong, united, and offer a sense of belonging to our community – to our family – if we don’t empathise with each other when we’re on stage and looking for moral support? I realise that sounds a bit self-righteous, but I do believe that together is better. I just want all of us in a big empathy orgy.”

Butt seriously

“My dad and his siblings always had big legs and – as a result – booty…” confirms Carter, when I ask him whether it’s exercise or just good genes that has made his butt so eye-catching. “Add to that a sprinkle of farm work, countless hours of ballet, some weight lifting, and voilà! Booty magic.

“I keep wanting to start back with ballet, but every time I tell myself that ‘today’s the day’, life gets in the way. What that probably means is that I’m lacking confidence in my now deteriorated abilities, which dwarfs my motivation. I do miss it. I miss that floating sensation – that feeling of not being so bound to the ground, if that makes any sense at all. Plus, it always was a great glute workout.”

“I hate gym workouts, but supersets of dumbbell deadlifts followed by one-legged dumbbell deadlifts have been working well for me recently. Plus, I do hip-thrusts – they’re killers but give good results. Something that Alex taught me is that every so often, you should always change your routine by adding and removing exercises, as well as changing the weight, and the number of reps and sets. That keeps your body guessing and keeps it in high-effort mode.”

Let’s talk underwear

“Jockstraps are definitely my underwear of choice…” confirms Carter, when our conversation inevitably turns to underwear. “Initially, I was wearing them at the gym, just so that my ass crack would really show and I could have a nice butt cleavage. I eventually started wearing them under my regular clothes – it feels much less stuffy and less restricting. Now, when I put on briefs, I end up feeling a little constricted.”

“On other guys, a jock is sexy, but commando gets extra brownie points.”
