Where Are All the Plus-Size Male Models? (By Amy Odell for NY Magazine)

4

NY MAG:
Few issues in fashion rile people up as much as diversity. From race to size and shape, the industry is consistently tasked with expanding and defending its narrow view of beauty. Men have clearly not gotten the same consideration as women in this arena. If they had, we might not have to wonder: Where are all the plus-size male models?

Discerning male shoppers, just like women, crave a hint of realism in fashion imagery from time to time. “Everyone’s looking to find someone who represents themselves in some way or another,” says 31-year-old sometime big-and-tall model Jermain Hollman. “I would like to see bigger, more athletic-looking models.” At 6’5” and 230 pounds, Hollman has been booked by modeling agents for jobs, but never signed by them. He would love to model full-time, and is always looking for representation, but thinks that the most a big-and-tall model can make out of the job is a “decent side career.” “Maybe designers or whoever like the way clothes fit on [straight-size] models,” he adds. “Men my size would like to wear those clothes as well.”

Bradley Cooper Is The Sexiest Man Alive (hmmmmmm…)

38

(Reuters) – Bradley Cooper is the latest Hollywood heartthrob to be named People’s sexiest man alive, the magazine announced on Wednesday. In choosing Cooper, who has enjoyed box office success most notably in “The Hangover” films, the magazine said there was more to the actor than his dazzling baby blues and a killer smile.

The 36-year-old is also a Georgetown University graduate, can cook, rides a motorcycle and is fluent in French. Cooper’s humility only added to his appeal, People said.

“I think it’s really cool that a guy who doesn’t look like a model can have this,” he told the magazine. “I think I’m a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying.”

Although he is single, Cooper said he doesn’t see himself as a ladies man. His initial reaction when he learned about the latest accolade was, “My mother is going to be so happy.” Runnersup on People’s annual list this year were Ryan Gosling, Idris Elba, Tim McGraw and Alec Baldwin.

BENETTON UNHATE CAMPAIGN

0

In line with the spirit of active participation and concrete action that drives the UNHATE project, the pictures of the United Colors of Benetton campaign are central to a billposting operation: a plan of unannounced live actions. Groups of young people will post the manifestos showing kissing leaders on the walls of locations symbolic of the desperately-needed peace process: Tel Aviv, New York, Rome, Milan, Paris.

Benetton’s in-house communication agency Fabrica doctored pictures of leaders–without their permission. Mr. Benetton says he doesn’t expect them to complain because it promotes a message of peace. However, last year after outerwear brand Weatherproof mounted a billboard of Mr. Obama wearing its jacket in Times Square, White House lawyers contacted the company asking them to take it down because the president objected to his image being used for commercial purposes.
