5. As I’ve blogged before, I knew Bob since I was a teen. I often stopped by his studio on 11th street when I was nearby and he taught me a lot about photography. He was an interesting man and his ever-changing circus at his house/studio was always fascinating and hot! The thy with the log over his head is Billy Cable, aka Stoner, who went on to a career with Colt. Some I only knew by first names..Johnny is the vuy on the bed; Wayne is the guy lifting the rock. The artist and model were the Fox brothers. The prison scene has Keith Long (vest) and Brian Diaz (sombrero). Brian did some work with Tico Paterson, the guy with the cast and crutches, who did porn under the name Tony Savage. The still with the guy with the sword and the beast head is from Bob’s “Beauty and the Beast”. Johnny Travis is the Knight who transforms Bill Voldemar, the Beast. Johnny would go on to be a notable force in gay porn.

   Travis, with Bob’s help became a good still photographer. He became interested in making the new 8mm loops and founded Telstar to distribute them. He would travel from city to city for new subjects. On one of those trips, he would meet Chuck Holmes which would be fateful. Chuck was sent to San Francisco to sell pre-fab homes. When that collapsed and went out of business in the early ’70s, he started a small mail order business to sell loops still his old job came back. He contacted John Travis to buy some loops. Meanwhile, John had made 2 loops starring John Holmes in his gay premiere. Chuck bought most of Travis’s Telstar loops as he decided to get out if the mail order biz. This would be the founding of Falcon Studios. Chuck would then hire Travis to film for him for the next 10 years. While there, he would direct about 40% of all films. Falcon never credited anyone behind the scenes as he thought it was a group effort and wanted to keep names out of public view. While there, Travis would direct classics such as “Other Side of Aspen II”, “Power tool”, etc. He also discovered Jeff Stryker, becoming his lover for a few years and directing all of his films. He left in ’82. He went on to found Studio 2000 in 1992 with Scott Masters(aka Robt. Walters), former head of production at Catalina. They built it into one of the worlds largest porn studios. They both retired in 2006 and sold out to two old friends at Falcon..the VP of marketing, McKay and Trace Wendell, a private investor. Naked Sword distributes their products. I last saw Travis about 4 years ago and he was just enjoying his money and retirement.

8. Behairy – thanks for that mini article. While the names don’t mean that much to me, it is interesting to know some background. I love all these vintage shots – take me back to my teens, but didn’t see moving pictures until the 70’s over here in New Zealand
