The crew behind the men-for-men site squirt.org
is introducing a revamped mobile site, called Squirt Mobile, the
first version of which was launched in 2009.
“Apps like Grindr and Scruff have
changed the market and the way people want to access these sites,” says Jeffrey
Freeman, Squirt’s web marketing manager. “It’s clear people are adopting a new
methodology to cruising.”
Squirt is operated by Pink Triangle
Press, which also publishes fab and Xtra.
Attila Szatmari, Squirt’s digital business director, says a team of about a
dozen developers has been mapping out “the logic of cruising” since last
summer. They have based the new format on where and when to find men who are
looking to hook up for sex . This began with adopting the GPS location tech
used so successfully by mobile apps like Grindr and Scruff. “In the old Squirt
Mobile site, you had to rely on what people were entering as their postal
codes,” Szatmari says. “Now it’s a similar location-based approach: you see the
guys around you.” A new feature is the ability to toggle between views: either
a grid of photos like Grindr or a scrolling list of mini-profiles.
One of the unique things about Squirt
Mobile is that member photos feature full-frontal nudity. That nudity is
something Apple, for example, forbids mobile applications available on the
iTunes Store.

“Apple has some guidelines,” Grindr CEO
Joel Simkhai told Xtra last summer. “They’ve got their rules. They’re
fairly explicit about profanity, nudity, overall sexuality. We have to obey
those guidelines.”
Squirt Mobile, however, can be accessed
via virtually any mobile web browser, making it accessible with almost any
mobile device.
“You can use the same full range of
images you’d use on a regular desktop site — more images than mobile apps: your
face, your penis, your ass,” says a proud Szatmari. “Whatever you think is your
best feature, that’s what you’re able to show.”
The Squirt Mobile site was previously
available only to paid members, but it’s available to everyone, though only
members will be able to skim through unlimited profiles. “We’re have rolled it
out to the rest of the world,” says Freeman. “We rolled it out to the United
Kingdom first to test-market and see how people responded to it. We actually
have a fairly decent audience in the UK,” he says. “Mostly Ireland.”
The revamped Squirt Mobile is expected
to debut for Canadian users in the spring.
Szatmari says he is pleased that a
significant 41 percent of current users say Squirt Mobile is “more effective or
much more effective than its competitors.”
Freeman says “users wanted more search
options, especially for other cities they may visit in the future. If you’re in
a new city, you can click on ‘Cruising’ and see the places that are closest to
you.”
Ultimately, he adds, the Squirt mobile
site “supports the cruising culture like no other site can.”
“Our website is a hookup site,”
Szatmari says. “We don’t sugarcoat that. Grindr is too chit-chatty,” he says.
“When people want to get laid, they’ll go to Squirt.”

i don’t like the new version it seems to put me in manchester for some reason and half the time the pages don’t even load
Been using Squirt Mobile for some time and this new version is way better. Grindr is total shit !!! gonna be cancelling my account now as the guys on there are just time wasters. Squirt Rules !!! x
It’s not brilliant, but it’s better than the previous web page.
Although, it would have been better if it was an actual app, like grindr, and gaydar etc… rather than just another webpage.
Have already sent off a number of suggestions re site.
one being for location they need to allow wifi/mobile networks as well as gps(eg google maps, even gridr other sites), for one thing gps sucks battery big time, if its overcast probably wont get signal or dropouts and if your in a building forget it. I don’t have gps on I did a test yesterday and was positioned 1000km away from where I was

Not as user-friendly as before. It won’t ‘remember’ me, so that I have to enter my username and password every time I open it. And, as others have commented, its idea of geography and distances is unbelievably wrong. Until these bugs are fixed – carry on with grindr, scuff or manhunt which all work better ! And I don’t pay for any of them.

If on the full site. I search for guys online within 5km of my postcode, I’m seeing as part of the result guys listed as being on their mobile that are listed as being in the 1km range and yet are 1000’s of km away even in other countries.
This morning when i was on mobile site (gps=no), I had guys contacting me from other cities that though I was local to them at the time
What i have found is that if you don’t have gps on or if you do but you can’t connect to satelites (overcast, in a building etc) have the full site running in another window on the phone and it seem to position the mobile back to at least your home area.
I like the old mobile site – as this new one wont work on my Blackberry – I know blackerry must be hard to program as I have issues with grindr everytime they upgrade – but love squirt and would love to at least be able to use the old version on my phone but that is not possible anymore – if they want this to be a success they need to get it working on blackberry as well

Hate it it dosent work on my phone bring back the old as it works on it as I have a nokia BRING BACK THE OLD VERSION everything seems to work around the iphone now is the time it should think of all others Phones just not the iphone all the time.

Bottom line they really didn’t do proper full testing so many issues and are restricted on the location finder (compared to most sites/apps that use locator options), they should also add option back to search for a particlar profile or cruise location (also allow more than 10 cruise entries to be viewed) and should add message boards as well.
I thought daily squirt should be about just that, “a daily squirt” not these continual advertisements
so much for using it on the go. I won’t be using it anymore. It doesn’t work on my phone, old version had no problems with.
I have been using the new squirt mobile for two days. It does remember me, I have saved my password. I like it quite a bit; however, guys listed online and via gps are not necessarily online. Would be nice to have an accurate read on that issue. Does suck battery. Also kills up some carrier’s data agreements. That the gods I have Sprint.
Lots of flaws in this new mobile version. Doesn’t seem to think GPS is turned on when it is. Very slow, no cocktales anymore, very hard to see chats, very hard pressing buttons, seeing whos viewed you and the list goes on. Would love to see messages one day too. But this is a huge step back folks, not impressed

Hate the site. I have been a member for around 7 or so years. I love the desk top site and could log on to that from both my I phone and I pad. But I can not get on the site now just the Mobile site and it sucks. Lol.
Yeah it sucks and I hate not having the option of accessing the full site.
