Could Juan Diego Florez or Lawrence Brownlee carry off this role at the Met? I don’t know – but both are really yummy, except you have to get used to Florez’ vibrato. But it would certainly not be in this production. I saw SALOME at the Met with Karita Mattila where she took off ALL of the 7 veils. I’m not sure that Brownlee, as Louisville-Slugger-36-to-the-skull-gorgeous vocally and facially he is, would strip down for this.
