The Burke family’s You Can Play campaign is making headlines with its challenge to National Hockey League players to support and welcome gay athletes. On Sat, March 10, Vancouver Canucks star Ryan Kesler filmed his own spot for the campaign. Xtra caught up to Kesler and Canucks captain Henrik Sedin a few days later to ask them the key question: if gay players can play, can they play on your team?

  1. These guys are terrific — incredible role models. I’m not much of a hockey fan, but I am a great admirer of athletes who are gentlemen. What a great campaign — “If you can play, you can play.” I hope it catches on in many other areas in need of tolerance and acceptance — “If you can serve, you can serve” comes to mind. Are you listening, Joint Chiefs of Staff?
