Men of Manscapes , 1997

When an anonymous photographer with a big camera lurks in the cruizing grounds, one sometimes witnesses the dance of the seven veils, or should I say the unveiling of the seven leathers. Amongst the markings of names, dates, phone numbers and droppings of money, condoms, Kleenex, clothes; most men shy away into the scape but the brazen few talk the talk, walk the walk and unsock the cock.

Initially, Evergon had resolved to photograph Manscapes’ cultural battlegrounds devoid of their inhabitants. However, during what he refers to as his ‘stricture’ at the BMPF&TV in Bradford England, he felt the best defense was a strong offense. It was under these circumstances and with the positive support of the Waygood Galley and the Zone Gallery, both of New Castle, that Evergon embraced photographing ‘Men of Manscape’.
