Some highlights from David Toussaint’s piece on GUY SPY:
Randy Roberts Potts, like his legendary grandfather Oral Roberts, is on a mission. The 37-year old, divorced father of three, came out in 2005 and spends his time speaking about homosexual acceptance. He’s also in the midst of writing a memoir, which is on its way to off-Broadway for a fall opening.

“Homosexuality and the Bible have never mixed in the eyes of Evangelical Christians. It comes from a deep-seated prejudice. They can’t relate to it, like you and I can’t relate to sleeping with a girl; it’s a little gross. There’s a natural prejudice they have to overcome.”

“My main audience grew up Evangelical,” says Potts. “They grew up very closeted, still raising their kids not to be gay, that kind of thing. Talking to a group of liberals on the East Coast is fine, but they probably already agree with me. I’d rather find a way to reach people on the fence, so I use the Bible more than I normally would. We can save a lot of kids’ lives.”

  1. This was even better than porn! It was awesome!
Thank you. I hope every guy who sees this will share it with at least one person.

  2. Instead of a “Roberts,” he looks like a tempting cross between a young Richard Gere and Don “Robbie Douglas” Grady. Thanks for sharing his wonderful self with us. Proves once again that we never know where our heroes are going to come from. I hope he gets all the praise and recognition he deserves for fulfilling his “mission.” I doubt he’ll be speaking on the campus of Oral Roberts University anytime soon, though. Pity — he should. Randy should be the Roberts we all remember.

  3. I grew up listening to people like his grandfather. I too was married, four children, and divorced. Yet all my life, I have a desire to be with a man more than a woman. After my divorce I acted on my feelings. I cannot “come out” for fear of the preceived repercussions, but, I have a wonderful man in my life that I thuroughly love. He is the most wonderful man that I can talk to and laugh with and cry with and you name it.
Randy Roberts Potts I am truly sorry about your Uncle. I am so glad for you that you are “comfortable in your skin”. Thanks for sharing this beautiful letter. I cried as you read it
