Gay football fans have voted Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard the hottest premiership player. The Gaydar survey of 4,276 men put Chelsea’s Fernando Torres in second place, while teammate Frank Lampard was third. Peter Crouch bagged just two per cent of the vote, coming in at the bottom of the list.

Despite their enthusiasm for the players, 19 per cent of fans said they would not go to a premiership match for fear of homophobia. Simon Johnson, product manager for Gaydar. co.uk, said: “It is not surprising only a small number of gay men go to football matches.
“What is shocking is so many are not going because they are worried about their safety due to homophobia within the sport.”
I have to be honest….Even though I loathe sports (due to reasons other than being gay) I find it painfully contradictary for someone to say it’s NOT SHOCKING that few gay men go to sports games, and then make the claim that it IS SHOCKING that the reason they don’t go is due to worry regarding safety.
So this person, possibly gay themselves since they work for a website called gaydar (haven’t visited it, probably won’t, to be honest), is pretty much outright supporting a bizarre stereotype that gay men don’t like sports/football in particular, and then turns around and says the shocker is that more would go if they had the chance to feel safe in that atmosphere.
I think the real shocker is that someone writing for a gay-themed website could make a statement so foolish while trying to make a point about homophobia.
As a Liverpool fan all my life I just don’t get the whole Steven Gerrard appeal…..he’s nice looking but not hot. Frank Lampard is one sexy shag….love to get my tongue up his sweaty arse after a hot game. And Joe Cole is such a cheeky dirty little fucker mmmmmmm.
