The nominations for this year’s Grabby Awards have been announced.
I caught up with JD Daniels to find out what being nominated in the Hottest Daddy category means to him.
Embracing your inner Daddy
“Now that I’m in my late-30s, I do embrace the identity of a Daddy…” confirms JD. “It’s a new milestone. I’m used to thinking of myself as the pretty boy, but those days are now behind me.”
“When I think of the guys who really embody that Daddy fantasy, I think of people like Cutler X, Colton Ford, and Rocco Steele.”
“Rocco Steele is nominated this year for Hottest Daddy – he’s going to be hard to beat. I’ve worked with a number of the guys that have been nominated – Dale Savage, Michael Roman, Dallas Steele, Silver Steel, Aaron Trainer, and Jake Morgan. Plus, there’s guys like Max Konnor, Drew Sebastian, and Nick Capra on that list. There’s a lot of competition there.”
“The Grabby Awards are very prestigious in our industry. It’s an honour to be nominated, and it would be amazing to win.”
Who’s your Daddy?
I reached out to some recent scene partners that JD has been working with in order to get their perspective on his Hottest Daddy nomination.
“JD just has BDE – Big Daddy Energy…” explains Jeremy Feist. “Also, his dick is the size of my fucking forearm. I think Daddies are just those kinds of guys you look at and go – Okay, they know what they’re doing and they’re self-actualized as fuck, and I kind of want to sit on their lap. Just a really strong adult male role-model vibe.”
“For me, it’s his confidence…” says Levy Foxx. “JD is a confident guy.”
“I think that being a Daddy is all about attitude…” says Trip Richards. “It’s about being a man who’s confident in his body and his sexuality. While guys often get the Daddy label as they get older within the porn industry, I think it’s really so much more than chronological age.”
“Confidence…” agrees Matthew Figata. “JD exudes confidence without being cocky – that is very sexy. He just has that ineffable quality that makes you want to please him.”
“For me, a hot Daddy is someone who takes control and takes good care of their boy…” says Stevie Trixx. “I definitely felt that with JD!”
Exploring the Daddy fantasy
“It’s a fantasy about control…” explains JD, when I ask him about the enduring appeal of the Daddy/Boy fantasy. “It’s about power and empowerment. The Daddy is a dominant figure – he’s in control physically and verbally – he can tell the boy and show the boy to go there, move here, to take what the Daddy wants to give.”
“The Boy is drawn to the sense of power exuded by the Daddy. The confidence and possessiveness of the Daddy helps to build the confidence of the Boy.”
“It’s also about the look of a Daddy…” adds JD. “A Daddy has a more mature look – you no longer look like a boy. You have a bit of a rougher edge. It’s a look that fits with the aggression and power of the Daddy fantasy.”
“I get off on a lot of different body types, but I have a fondness for Daddy/Boy stuff…” confirms Jeremy Feist. “I like that whole fantasy of an older man who has his shit together training me to be a good boy – I’m a type-A nerd and I need constant validation.”
“I always think of it as like a scene between a Dom and Sub…” says Levy Foxx. “To see the power of the Daddy and the way he’s dominating the smaller boy is super-hot.”
“To be honest, the Daddy/Boy fantasy isn’t one that appeals to me personally…” says Trip Richards. “I know that it’s common for younger male performers to be cast in Boy roles. I also know that it’s very common for transmale performers like myself to be cast in that role, regardless of their age. That’s one of the amazing things about being able to produce my own scenes – I get to tell my own story!”
“I probably owe my fledgling career in porn to this phenomenon…” says Matthew Figata. “Although I want to branch out and do different types of roles, I’m happy to fulfil those fantasies while I can.”
“Because we all have daddy issues?” suggests Stevie Trixx. “We all just want to feel taken care of, and I think a lot of the Daddy/Boy dynamic is about that – whether it’s rough or gentle or anywhere in between.”
Fantasy versus Reality
“I don’t play the role of a Daddy in my personal life…” says JD, when I ask him if the Daddy fantasy is something that he connects with when he’s off-camera . “My husband – T Willcox – actually fits the role of Daddy better than I do – he has the look and the attitude.”
“Daddy/Boy role-play isn’t something that we do at home, but I’m always happy to play the Daddy when filming.”
“There’s a lot of guys that I’d love to have a bit of Daddy/Boy fun with. I’ve recently filmed with Levy Foxx, Jared Erickson, and Jake Morgan – they all make good boys. Other guys that I think really fit that role well include Link Parker, Sean Zevran, Gabriel Cross, and Ruslan Angelo.”
